Prescript 3301

I was born in 1972 and I will die in 2024. I live in the Jutland town of Vestbirk. Time after time, summer after summer, Secretly, I end up in Copenhagen making postcards. No one in my family or among those who know me will ever have heard of me being accused by the police in connection with the making of illegal postcards.

from the audio installation Dear Mary (Memories of the Future), NLH2013

The work is centered around a beach hut; A camera obscura with sound and pinhole camera documenting live performances taking place on the beach. The project is inspired by the life and work of the Danish photographer Mary Willumsen who worked at bathing establishments in Denmark in the 1910-20ies.

The installation Dear Mary (Memories of the Future) is supported by The Danish Art Workshops, Aarhus Tech, Mimosa Foto og HHC Distribution samt Aarhus Arts Council-Kulturudviklingspuljen

curated by Judith Schwarzbart and Sanne Krogh Groth

The programme presents works that investigate the body´s symbiotic relationship with machinary, a lecture-performance, a sound piece generated by the audience and a very special requiem.

Kunsthal Charlottenborg Copenhagen

1st November 2013 4:30-7:00 pm

The performance is about a female artist's life and photographic work at the beginning of the last century . A script of both true and false modified ' facts ' are presented as a collage of different voices in which a first-person narrator refers both to the future and the past. The story is performed by several performers , which together occupy the exhibition space .

'Untitled ( 100 Years x multiple Voices ) ' is based on the story - and the works of - a female , Danish photographer, who in the early 1900s, photographed naked and half-naked women at beaches and in public bathhouses in Aarhus and Copenhagen.  In the beginning the pictures were part of an exchange and creative collaboration between women ( photographers and models ) , but later the photographs were sold  as " French postcards " . The women worked anonymously in order not to get problems with contemporary 'laws of pornography' . When - almost 100 years later -  the artistic quality in the photographs was recognised, it was a major detective work to find out the identity of the photographer behind the postcards .

The text used in the performance ' Untitled ( 100 Years x multiple Voices ) is fragmented in its construction.

Similarly, the performers place themselves around the exhibition space, reading text fragments from the script, contributing parts  to the whole , each with their own voice. The audience  will be able to experience their own version of the story depending on where they are located and how they move around the exhibition space.

Dear Daughter / Organic Cyborg Stories No. 1 (After Donna Haraway)

20 minutes live performance/audio-video installation, 2013

Nanna Lysholt Hansen is re-examining the cyborg figure through a modification of Donna Haraways’s Cyborg Manifesto.

The original text has been used as raw material, torn apart, modified, and used in fragments to create a new text interwoven with the artist’s personal experience of being pregnant with her first child.

The result is a partly poetic, partly pragmatic text spoken by a voice who is both and partly mother of the text in the past (Donna), embodiment of the text in the present  (Nanna) and future carrier of the text (Daughter).

I contribute to the exhibition TO BE CONTINUED with the work

Dear Mary (Tracing Double Other), 2015

The project is inspired by the life and work by the Danish photographer Mary Willumsen (1884-1961). Mary Willumsen photographed naked and partly stripped women in the beginning of the last century. She worked anonymously to avoid problems with the laws of pornography at the time.

Through live performance, camera obscura audio installation and pinhole photography I am re-writing the story about Mary Willumsen in an attempt to place her somewhere in between the past, the present and the future where facts and fiction coalesce.

A forest cabin with hand-carved text fragments is placed on a less visible location in the forest at Skovsnogen Artspace and is functioning as a pinhole camera and photo laboratory. During special events it will be possible to enter the forest cabin and experience camera obscura and a site-specific, text-based, audio piece. At the opening of the exhibition TO BE CONTINUED there will also be live performance.
